Can Rats Drink Soda?
A recent study looked at whether rats can drink soda. Since cola-based sodas are common in our diets, scientists decided to study the effects of cola on rats. They separated rats into three age groups and put them in cola and water drinking groups. After 57 days, they tested each group to see if they changed. The rats who drank water had no problems, while the rats who drank soda had abnormal brain structure.
The problem with letting rats consume food with high-calorie content is that they can become bloated and obese, both of which can be dangerous for your pet. In order to prevent this, you need to make sure that you do not give them any high-calorie, high-fat foods. Rather, give them high-fat treats only occasionally.
Although a rat can ingest baking soda, the taste is very unpleasant, and it’s difficult to get it to ingest it. A few grams would be enough to kill a rat. Usually, you can try mixing baking soda with food to make the taste less pronounced, but this will result in less food for your rat.
Sodium bicarbonate (also known as baking soda) is a crystalline powder that is odorless and white in color. It has a pH of 8 to 9 and decomposes at 50 degC. Sodium bicarbonate is non-toxic, but it needs to be mixed with another substance to make it appealing to rats.
