Can Rats Drink Gatorade?
Rats can drink Gatorade, but it should only be used as a treat. The drink contains too much sugar and salt for rats, and can cause dehydration. Instead, give your rat water. This will dilute the sugar content and make the sports drink safe for rats.
Rats should be offered plenty of water and food close by. Try not to exert them too much, since dehydration can lead to death. Freshwater or a glucose solution, prepared by adding 3 teaspoons of honey to one pint of warm water, are good choices. A diuretic and a sodium-deficient diet were also used.
If your rat becomes ill, separate it from its healthy buddy. The healthy rat will tend to lay around with the sick one and groom it. If you have a sick rat, put it in a quiet cage. You can also give him or her crushed garlic or rosemary to strengthen their immune system. You can hide it in a tasty treat.
If you suspect your rat of dehydration, check the skin color. Rats with dehydration often have tent-shaped skin and white gums. Sodium chloride can be administered intravenously to stop dehydration.
