Steel wool is a common material used for plugging holes. However, this material can be chewed through by rats, which can result in pain. This is not to say that steel wool is not an effective rodent control method. If it is properly placed and secured, however, steel wool can be effective in preventing rodents from entering your home.
If you’re concerned about rats getting into your home, you may want to install rat traps. While some rats may be able to chew through steel wool, a more common option is using a wire mesh. A wire mesh can keep Rats away from your home by preventing them from accessing food. Using wire mesh can also deter rats from causing any damage. If you’re worried about rats chewing through wire, you can use scrunched-up wire wool to block small gaps. Make sure you pack the wire wool tightly so that it won’t be easily gnawed through. Another option is to use expanding foam in addition to wire wool. This can provide a more cosmetic appearance and help prevent drafts. However, be aware that expandable foam is not a rat-proof material.
Rats’ jaw muscles are incredibly strong. Rats’ front teeth can easily gnaw through a variety of man-made materials, including wood, cardboard, and concrete. Their jaw muscles can even reach 6,000 pounds per square inch!
