When Does Mosquitoes Die?

There are several species of mosquito that are able to survive winter. This is because some of them have adapted to cold climates. These mosquitoes will typically find a sheltered location to hibernate. Some of these places may be abandoned animal burrows, old hollow logs, or damp areas that are sheltered from the cold.
Another way that mosquitoes can survive during the cold months is by laying eggs. Female mosquitoes lay their eggs in damp soil or stagnant water. When the weather warms up, these eggs will hatch. Some of these eggs can stay dormant for years before they are ready to be hatched.
During the cold months, female mosquitoes enter a state of diapause. This means that they won’t be eating, and will be unable to reproduce. However, this does not mean that they are going to die. They may return in the spring or summer to lay more eggs.
If you don’t want to deal with the aftermath of a mosquito infestation, you can kill them before they get too big. Mosquitoes can live in any location that has water. They can also make their home in drains, potted plants, and even homes.
