Midges and Mosquitoes in Scotland

During summer in Scotland, there are a number of different types of mosquitoes that can be found. Some are more common than others. If you want to avoid these bugs, there are a few things you can do. Fortunately, most are harmless, but you may experience an itchy bite.

Midges are also a problem in Scotland, but they are much smaller than mosquitoes. Unlike mosquitoes, midges can’t fly in high winds. So if you’re heading out to the countryside in Scotland, make sure to wear long sleeves and legs when you’re walking.

The best way to prevent midges from biting you is to use an antihistamine cream. This will soothe the itch and stop the bite from spreading. You may also consider using a midge net, which will keep the midges from flying into your eyes and nose.

Although there are several species of midges that can bite humans, it’s important to remember that most aren’t dangerous. In fact, they’re just annoying. Depending on where you live in Scotland, you can expect to encounter these insects between May and September.

During midge season, you should try to avoid getting out in the morning and evening. These are the times when the females are most active.

When you are outdoors, look for a spot that is high or at least shady. You can also check out the weather forecast to see if midges are expected in your area. If there are low temperatures and a lot of rain, it’s likely that midges will be a problem.
