How Cold Can Mosquitoes Fly?

Hibernation is a common strategy used by mosquitoes to survive cold temperatures. It allows mosquitoes to survive for a few months without the ability to reproduce. During hibernation, female mosquitoes find a safe place to burrow and collect blood for their eggs. They then wait for the weather to warm up enough to hatch.
During hibernation, female mosquitoes fatten up and survive for several months. They also use a variety of covers to protect themselves from the cold. In some cases, they enter homes for shelter. They may squat on the ceiling or walls and absorb heat from the surface.
The temperature must be below 50 degrees Fahrenheit to cause mosquitoes to hibernate. If the temperature rises above 50 degrees, they become active again. Some mosquito species can survive temperatures as low as 30 degrees Fahrenheit.
When temperatures rise above 50 degrees Fahrenheit, female mosquitoes lay eggs. Some can be laid in moist areas or in the ground. Some eggs can even survive for several years before hatching.
Adult mosquitoes usually die off when temperatures are super cold. A sudden change in weather can also cause them to die off. However, there are still a few mosquitoes that can survive the cold.
