How Cold Can Mosquitoes Fly?

During cold weather, mosquitoes can be affected in many ways. They can become lethargic or hibernate. Several mosquito species have evolved to cope with cold weather. However, there are some mosquitoes that simply cannot live in cold climates.

Hibernation is a common strategy used by mosquitoes to survive cold temperatures. It allows mosquitoes to survive for a few months without the ability to reproduce. During hibernation, female mosquitoes find a safe place to burrow and collect blood for their eggs. They then wait for the weather to warm up enough to hatch.

Adult mosquitoes usually die off when temperatures are super cold. A sudden change in weather can also cause them to die off. However, there are still a few mosquitoes that can survive the cold.
