Can Mosquitoes Have Seizures?

It is caused by a virus that is passed from an infected mosquito to a host. Approximately 70 cases are reported annually in the United States. However, only a small percentage of these cases are fatal.
The virus, which is transmitted through mosquitoes, can cause seizures. The most common symptoms include headaches, fever, stiff neck, and fatigue. Some infected people do not experience any symptoms. Other patients may experience seizures and other complications.
The virus can also be transmitted by other insects, including birds and pigs. It is usually transmitted by Culex mosquitoes. If an infected person has seizures, they will need to be admitted to the hospital.
The virus is also known to cause encephalitis. It is estimated that three to six percent of patients who are infected with the virus will experience seizures. This infection is more common in children and those who have compromised immune systems.
In addition to West Nile Virus, the Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) virus is another cause of encephalitis. The EEE virus is maintained through the natural cycle of mosquitoes and birds. The virus can be transmitted by a mosquito that feeds on an infected animal.
During the spring and summer months, inland floodwater mosquitoes are most commonly seen. These mosquitoes are brown and have pale B-shaped marks on their abdomen. They can be especially irritable after a heavy rainfall.
