Where Do Flies Come From?
Flies are small, winged insects that live in moist areas. The source of moisture for flies could be condensation in drafts or runoff from plumbing leaks. If you find flies in your house, they are most likely laying eggs inside rotting material. These insects reproduce constantly and often indoors. They breed by laying eggs in thin films near their food source and then feeding off the eggs.
Some flies can live outdoors, including fruit flies. Fruit flies can enter your home from the outdoors by hitchhiking on fresh fruit or vegetables. Compost and garbage bins also contain fruit flies. Keep garbage and compost away from doorways to prevent flies from breeding in your home.
Flies are attracted to decaying organic materials, such as waste paper, food, and animal feces. They can also come into your home through holes in the window screens or doors. A clean house is a great way to keep flies out. You should always keep food and water in a clean environment. Flies need moisture and organic material to thrive.
Flies do not bite humans, but they do carry a variety of diseases. The Amateur Entomologists’ Society reports that there are approximately 100,000 different species of flies in the world. Flies are attracted to rotting produce, animal faecal matter, and garbage, so they can spread pathogens from their food source. They can even infect your food and eating surfaces.
