Is it Flys Or Flies?
WouterFlys is an incorrect plural form of fly, but the word is often mispronounced. Flys can refer to a zipper on a pair of pants or to a fly ball (a more common way of saying fly balls). It also has other meanings. In the 1800s, it was used to refer to a carriage.
Flies are attracted to the smell of putrid things. They can be found in barns, garbage piles, and road kill. They can be found in thick black swarms. The phrase “flies on _____” also refers to a lack of alertness or activity.
While the term “fly” is commonly used for any small flying insect, it is more accurate to use “true fly” to distinguish the species. House flies are gray-colored, with four black stripes on their thorax. They are about an eighth to one-fourth inch long and have one pair of wings. Their compound red eyes are made up of thousands of individual lenses. Unlike many other insects, they lack a stinger or teeth.
Flys are used as a noun and can also be used as a verb. They both refer to a tiny winged insect that is attracted to putrid smells and can be found in garbage and dump sites. Additionally, fly is a synonym for “to move through the air.” However, flys have little place in contemporary English. In historical contexts, “flies” may be used in place of “flies.”
