How to Get Rid of Houseflies
If you have a fly problem, the best way to get rid of them is to eliminate breeding sites for them. Fly larvae are drawn to organic matter, such as rotting vegetation and food waste, so it is important to regularly remove these items from your home. In addition, keep your garbage cans tightly sealed, and don’t leave anything out on the porch or in your yard that can attract flies. Also, make sure to clean up any feces or animal waste right away.
Another effective way to get rid of flies is to use essential oils. These scents can be very unpleasant to houseflies, and many of these essential oils have powerful repellent properties. Lavender oil, for example, is effective when used straight from the bottle, or diluted with carrier oils. Alternatively, you can grind dried lavender leaves and place them in pouches around your bed. Eucalyptus oil is another natural repellent, which is particularly unpleasant to flies.
Fruits and other similar foods contain sugar, which flies are attracted to. Flies will also feed on dead skin, open wounds, and sweat. Flies also feed on decaying matter, as this is a source of protein and nutrients.
