How Long Do Flies Stay Alive?
A fly’s life span depends on a number of factors, including its size, temperature, and diet. Generally, adult flies live for 15 to 25 days, but some can live for two months. The lifespan of a fly also depends on the availability of food, and can be extended through suitable food.
Flies are tiny winged insects that live in a wide range of habitats. They are classified into three major groups: the housefly, the fruit fly, and the tsetse fly. Of the three, the housefly is the most common type of fly encountered by humans. Other common types of flies are mosquitos and gnats.
Unlike mosquitoes, flies have a fairly short life cycle. The first stage is a larva, which is about 2 mm long on hatching. The larva grows to 5 mm in size before it sheds its skin. The second stage, or pupa, is similar, but lasts a bit longer. In addition, adult flies take only a few days to reproduce.
A fly’s life cycle can last up to two months, depending on the temperature in its environment. However, in the summer, the life cycle can take as little as seven to ten days.
