Do Flies Come Back Alive?
It is a common misconception that flies can come back from death. This is not true; however, a frozen fly will twitch and buzz around once it thaws out. In reality, flies die and reproduce quickly, and while some flies do seem to come back from the dead, it is not a guarantee of a successful recovery.
Most common flies are not able to survive freezing temperatures, so they do not hibernate. They need food and shelter to survive winter. If you see flies inside your home, you should give them a place to hide. They will search for warm hidden areas to survive the winter, but they will not reproduce or do any real damage.
Some species of houseflies have a very short life cycle. The larvae stage lasts only a few hours, and after reaching adulthood, female flies begin laying eggs. The lifespan of these insects can be a little over one year. If you notice a persistent problem with houseflies, you can take steps to keep them out of your home.
During the summer, flies lay eggs on meat and vegetable scraps in garbage bins. Within a week, the eggs hatch and the flies lay eggs on the garbage. Then they pupate in dark places. It is possible to see fly maggots in garbage cans, but it is better to vacuum out any maggots you find. If you miss them, they will emerge as flies and live again.
