Can You Use Regular Vinegar For Flies?
You can use regular vinegar as an effective fly repellent. The fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, is attracted to the smell of fermented fruit, but the smell of vinegar repels it. The adult fly uses its sense of smell to detect acetic acid, which accumulates as the fruit ferments. Low concentrations of acetic acid attract flies while high concentrations repel them.
White vinegar is also effective as a fly repellent. You can mix it with other ingredients to make a spray. For example, you can mix it with baking soda and dish soap. Using a fly trap is another option. The vinegar can also be mixed with sugar to attract flies.
Another useful DIY fly trap is made of plastic wrap and jars. Make sure to poke small holes in the plastic trap to let the vinegar escape. If you are using a jar, you can use the tip of a pin to poke the holes. A bottle with a small neck will also work.
You can also use apple cider vinegar to repel fruit flies. Pour the vinegar into a glass or bowl and cover it with plastic wrap. Then, secure it with a rubber band. The fruit flies will be attracted to the smell and will fall through the holes. If you do not have apple cider vinegar, you can use white vinegar instead.
