Can Flies Be Albino?
Although many people don’t realize it, flies can be albino. This genetic condition is caused by a lack of melanin. It causes pale or white skin, hair, and eyes. Symptoms of albinism are similar to those of the Caucasian population. Fortunately, people who are albino can still dye their hair, as they do with other people.
Albino spiders and insects are very rare. They are usually cave dwellers or specimens that have recently molted. Tattoo artists often have problems working with people who have pigmentation issues, because their style and palette need to change. However, tattooing orange peel is completely unaffected by skin pigmentation.
Histamine, a neurotransmitter, has numerous actions in the fly brain. It is produced at photoreceptor synapses, where it plays an important role in visual perception. Its ectopic expression was first noted in 1995. But this finding did not mean that the white protein played a neurological role in male courtship. Rather, the white gene is likely transcribed in neural tissues.
