How to Get Rid of Fleas in Grass
If you have noticed fleas in your lawn, you’re probably not the only one. Fleas are common pests in lawns, and can pose a serious health risk to pets and humans. Fleas love humid, shady areas, and they can enter your lawn through a pet’s fur. They also can be transported by wildlife and deposit their eggs and larvae in your lawn. Fortunately, fleas can be easily controlled by a few steps.
The first step is to identify the source of fleas in your yard. If you notice red or brown “flea dirt” or patches of hair loss, you may have a flea infestation. You can also check your lawn by placing a white sock in it. The white sock will show fleas if they’re in your lawn. Fleas have large families, and a female flea can lay up to 800 eggs in her lifetime.
The best way to get rid of fleas is to find a natural way to kill them. Nematodes can be purchased from garden centers or online. You’ll need to apply them every two weeks, so that they can get to work on the fleas. Another way to prevent fleas in your grass is to prune the grass around your home.
Fleas will breed in grass that is moist and shady. If the grass is wet or flooded, the flea eggs won’t be able to survive.
