How Long Do Fleas Stay on Humans?
Fleas do not stay on humans for long, but they can lay eggs on your skin or on your pet. Because humans have no fur or feathers, they can easily be spread from an animal to you, so make sure to wash your skin thoroughly after coming in contact with an infested animal. It is also important to understand that fleas are attracted to light and heat.
Adult fleas can live for up to a year, depending on their host, temperature, humidity, and food sources. Female fleas lay as many as 40-50 eggs per day after taking a blood meal. Normally, the eggs hatch after two days, but they can survive as long as 10 days. After hatching, the larvae spend the next 15 days developing into adult fleas. Once mature, the adult flea will look for a suitable host to reproduce. Once the female flea attaches itself to a potential host, it will mate and lay eggs within 24 hours of attaching to them.
Fleas are attracted to the warmth and carbon dioxide of the host and will begin feeding on the host’s blood once they get in contact. Once they are dislodged, they will die within a day or two.
