How Hard Are Flea Eggs?
Flea eggs are sticky and hard to see, but they can be found in carpets, bedding, and other fabrics. The eggs hatch between two and five days after being laid. In ideal conditions, the eggs hatch faster. However, in less ideal conditions, the eggs can take two to three weeks to hatch.
Adult female fleas can lay as many as fifty eggs a day. This means that to get rid of a flea infestation, you need to treat the eggs as well. You can use prescription flea shampoos or IGRs, or you can use spot on treatments. If you don’t have a steam cleaner, you can use insect growth regulators (IGRs), which prevent the eggs from hatching. You can also use insecticides with imidacloprid or permethrin to kill adult fleas.
Flea eggs are very difficult to spot because they are so small. They are off-white in color and have an oval shape. Their size is similar to a grain of rice or salt. They also have a thin, soft chorion, which makes it easier for the developing larvae to breathe. However, unlike other insect eggs, flea eggs are not very hard, and they can collapse on themselves.
Flea eggs will fall off of your pet after a few days, but this will depend on your pet’s activity level. If you pet isn’t moving much, most of the eggs will fall off in a few days. The itchiness caused by the bites will also encourage your pet to scratch, which accelerates the process of dry egg shedding. Typically, you will find the eggs in the areas where your pet spends the most time.
