How Fleas Can Survive in Furniture
Fleas often find hiding places in wood furniture. They can also live in cracks and holes. You can use diatomaceous earth to kill fleas by cutting off their exoskeleton and causing dehydration. If you don’t have diatomaceous earth, try a mixture of 90 percent warm water and five drops of lavender or cedar oil.
Fleas may not be visible when they are adult, but they can still be present in your home. These pests can be easily brought inside from your pets. This is why you should clean and vacuum regularly. Make sure you clean the upholstery in every possible area, and keep the vacuum bag outside to prevent any fleas from escaping.
If you notice any traces of flea eggs or fleas on upholstered furniture, it is a good idea to use flea powder or diatomaceous earth. You should wait at least 24 hours for the powder to have its full effect. Also, don’t forget to wash furniture cushions, even the cushions, in hot water.
The reason for this is that furniture is an excellent habitat for flea eggs and larvae. Adult fleas will rarely stay outside of their cocoons for long. They emerge from their cocoon when thermal changes in the surrounding air create a suitable host. If they can’t feed, fleas will die.
