Cedar Chips and Fleas
Cedar chips have an odour that fleas hate. These chips can be added to dog bedding, furniture, and outdoor seating areas to repel fleas. They can also be sprinkled on fences to help keep fleas away. The cedar chips have an added benefit of helping to prevent the development of new flea infestations.
These chips are not only useful in preventing fleas on pets, but they are also useful for tackling other pest problems as well. They can be used to repel other pests such as scorpions, spiders, and snakes. In fact, the smell of cedar repels fleas and their eggs.
If you want to give cedar chips to your dog, make sure that you consult your vet first. Some dogs are sensitive to cedar chips, and some types can develop a severe allergic reaction if they ingest them. Nevertheless, if your dog isn’t too sensitive to cedar, you can try a small amount first and then see if it works. Cedar chips can also cause gastrointestinal upset if your pet eats them.
Another advantage of cedar chips is their ability to reduce the odor of your dog. Your dog’s odor can be caused by dander, dirt, poor oral hygiene, and rolling in stinky surfaces. Cedar chips contain a sweet, naturally-occurring smell that will mask other scents from your dog. Besides this, cedar chips are also an effective natural deodorizer. They can also be used as mulch in the garden.
