Why Do Cockroaches Flip Over?

A cockroach may be inclined to flip over when it is on a smooth surface. These insects have a high center of gravity, and their backs are rounded. This makes it difficult for them to right themselves when they fall over. A cockroach that is flipped over is likely to die because it will not have enough traction to get back up.

It’s not clear what makes them flip over, but they have six legs and are therefore quite bulky. When they are in distress, they lose muscle control, and so they roll onto their backs. This causes the leg muscles to tuck under their bodies, causing the cockroach to topple over.

When the cockroach is threatened, it can use this skill to escape. It may run towards a ledge, dive off it, and swing like a pendulum under it. This means that the animal retains about 75 percent of its running energy. Furthermore, it uses both its wings and legs equally.

This behavior is natural for cockroaches. However, if you want to be sure, you can apply a pesticide containing boric acid. However, if you have a chemical pesticide-resistant cockroach, it may not kill all of the cockroaches, so don’t be surprised if you find a few dead roaches scattered around the house.
