Why Do Cockroach Come Out at Night?

Cockroaches are naturally nocturnal, which means they’re most active at night. This is because they’re more energetic when it’s dark, and they can carry out their activities more effectively. Plus, cockroaches have light-sensitive organs that help them find food in the dark.
Cockroaches can be in three states of activity at any time, one of which is locomotion. This is the most active state, while the other two are inactive. Afterward, they go to sleep. Their movements are similar to those of human beings during their sleep.
Aside from being nocturnal, cockroaches also have specific activity rhythms. They’re inactive during the day, but start hunting for food around four hours after the sun goes down. Their favorite food sources are food scraps left out on the floor, dog food in the dish, garbage, and sludge between the stovetop and the counter. They also feed on fresh or rotting food matter.
Cockroaches don’t like daylight, so they prefer dark and moist places. Cockroaches have been known to hide in bookcases, folded fabrics, and piles of old newspapers. Even pet food bags can be a magnet for these pests.
