The two most common types of cockroaches are brown cockroaches and black cockroaches. Both have wings but are rarely seen flying. The two dark stripes on their back help identify them. The males are approximately half an inch long, while females are around five to eight inches long. They leave behind “pepper-like” droppings. One of the largest types of cockroaches found in houses is the American cockroach. Also known as the palmetto bug, it can be as large as 32 mm long and can bite.
Another species of cockroaches is the brown banded cockroach. It prefers indoor spaces and is less common than the German cockroach. However, male brown banded cockroaches can fly away from disturbances.
