What Size Are Cockroach Eggs?

The egg cases of most types of roaches are reddish-brown to dark-brown in color. Some have ridges along the sides, while others are smooth and flat. In addition, some egg casings appear swollen.
The American cockroach produces fourteen to sixteen nymphs in one egg case. In contrast, Oriental cockroaches lay 12 to sixteen eggs per case. Egg cases vary in size, but you can see them with a naked eye. They may be in hidden places, but they are a telltale sign of a cockroach infestation. Cockroaches prefer moist, warm places, which makes them more likely to infest homes.
The American cockroach is reddish brown in color and larger than its European cousin. It is approximately two inches long. The protonum of an adult female cockroach contains twenty to forty eggs. The adult female carries the ootheca around until the eggs hatch. She then drops it about 24 hours before the eggs hatch. Cockroach eggs can be difficult to spot and eradicate.
