How High Can Cockroaches Fly?

Cockroaches are a common household pest in Singapore. They are very small and can grow to be up to 7 cm long. They are not considered a serious pest and are often kept as pets. Their exoskeletons are covered with an iridescent sheen. They hiss during mating rituals and fights.

Most species are not able to fly, though there are some species that can. In the urban environment, cockroaches are found in high-density areas. They prefer warm, moist conditions. Some species are unable to survive in cold climates.

Cockroaches are known to feed on starchy material, which means they are attracted to crumbs and other food scraps. To avoid attracting these pests, waste bins should be emptied regularly. Moreover, if you live in a high-rise building, check the rubbish chutes to make sure that there are no food remnants that cockroaches can feed on.

The first morphological system for cockroaches used four characteristics. However, this system was not accurate enough to prove the relationship between species. Molecular phylogeny has improved this system to include more characteristics. The asymmetry of male genitalia in cockroaches has been a key factor in cockroach phylogeny studies.

Cockroaches have excellent senses of smell. Their long antennae and olfactory receptors allow them to detect changes in odour from different directions. This enables them to find food quickly. Cockroaches are highly infectious and can transmit diseases and cause allergies.
