How Heavy Are Hissing Cockroaches?

Hissing cockroaches can reach sexual maturity as early as three months, and they can have up to three litters per year. Females typically carry their eggs in their bodies for up to 60 days after mating. Unlike other roaches, which make noise by rubbing parts of their bodies together or vibrating their membranes, cockroaches only hiss when they are trying to get attention or to defend their territory.

The Madagascar hissing cockroach is large and has a hard outer shell. It has six legs and a black head. The cockroach has three parts to its body, including the head, pronotum, and abdomen. The head is very small and is carried below the pronotum, which has two horns. Males have horns, while females do not have horns.

Cockroaches are nocturnal and live in colonies. They have spiracles on their sides to breathe and can survive up to 30 minutes in water. They are able to withstand up to 10 times more radiation than humans. Their body temperature in their native habitat is usually more than 100 degrees.

Madagascar hissing cockroaches weigh about one-eighth of an ounce. The males have pronotal horns, which are used to defend themselves. This insect is one of the largest species of cockroach in the world.
