How Big Are Cockroaches?
The size of adult cockroaches can vary widely. They can range from a quarter to a half inch in length. The size of a cockroach also depends on the species. Some species are bigger than others and their size can increase as they mature. The most common species of cockroach is the American cockroach. This species is also known as the Bombay canary and the ship cockroach.
Cockroaches have antennae that help them sense movement and taste air. Their lifespan can range from one to six years. Female cockroaches live longer than males. They can live for 600 days before reaching maturity, although many of them die before they are able to reproduce.
The American cockroach is the biggest house pest in the United States. They are reddish brown in color and have wings. They live in moist places and can be an annoyance. Their wings allow them to fly short distances. Typically, American cockroaches are one and a half inches long.
Although cockroaches do not bite, they can scratch with their heavy leg spines, which can cause skin infections. Some species can grow as large as 3.5 inches in length. However, most cockroaches are just one to two inches long and weigh no more than 30 grams.
