Do Cockroaches Cause Skin Rashes?

Cockroaches can also trigger allergic reactions, which can include asthma and allergic rhinitis. There are more than 4,000 species of cockroaches worldwide, but the German cockroach and the American cockroach are the most common types of cockroaches responsible for allergic reactions in the U.S.

Some people with cockroach allergy may experience only mild or no symptoms. For those with a milder case, an allergist may prescribe an immunotherapy treatment. This treatment may decrease or even eliminate the symptoms. The goal is to suppress the immune response to the allergens in the environment, which will lessen the risk of recurring allergy symptoms.

If you suspect that cockroaches cause allergic reactions, your doctor may order a skin patch test to check for cockroach antibodies. The symptoms associated with cockroach allergies include sneezing, watery eyes, cough, and postnasal drip.
