Most cockroaches do not bite humans, as they are shy animals. In fact, they are mostly active at night and tend to hide in dark areas. Though cockroaches rarely bite humans, they will occasionally bite by accident. These bites are usually caused by the cockroach feeding on your skin’s dead skin, fingernails, and eyelashes.
Cockroaches can cause an allergic reaction if you are sensitive to their allergens. The white blood cells in your body react to the proteins in the saliva and feces of cockroaches. In some cases, cockroach bites may trigger an asthma attack or even anaphylaxis.
Cockroaches tend to prefer starchy or sugary food. If food is scarce, they may bite you – even when you’re sound asleep! Fortunately, they’re rare. Just keep your face and hands clean, and you’ll be able to avoid the risk of a roach bite.
The bite area should be washed thoroughly with warm water and soap. Do not rub the area with excessive pressure, as this can lead to an infection. You may also consider applying hydrocortisone cream to relieve the itchiness.
