How Fast Bed Bugs Can Spread

They are reddish-brown in color and one to seven millimeters long. They can survive for months without eating and lay hundreds of eggs over their lifetime. Getting rid of them can be difficult, so the key is to prevent an infestation.
Once bed bugs have invaded a home, they reproduce very quickly. A single female will lay approximately one to five eggs per day. In the course of a year, a female can lay up to five hundred eggs. After the eggs hatch, the bed bugs will reproduce for at least six weeks before reaching adulthood.
Bed bugs can live in any room of your home. All they need is a warm, moist environment and a source of blood. A clean home does not discourage bed bugs, but a cluttered home will attract them. Clutter makes it easy for them to hide and reproduce. The bugs can move from room to room and between floors.
Once you’ve identified the source of the infestation, you can treat the area. You can use heat to kill the bugs, and you can start the treatment process in the afternoon. If you haven’t been able to eliminate the bed bugs completely, you can move to another room to prevent them from spreading further.
