Ants

Do Ant Traps Expire?

Whether you use a liquid or granular bait, it is important to replace it on a regular basis. If you do not replace it, the bait can become ineffective, or worse, harmful to your family.

If you have a large ant colony, you may need to place multiple bait stations in different locations. The slow-acting ingredient in most ant baits allows for foraging ants to take small amounts back to the nest.

While ants are known to ignore baits near trails, they will eventually lay new trails to the bait. It is important to monitor your baits regularly for signs of feeding.

Generally, you will not see any results from baiting for ants within a week. It can take up to eight weeks for baiting to become effective.

If your baits have not worked for a long time, you may want to try a different type of ant control product. These products can be effective in controlling smaller colonies of ants.

A sugar-based insecticide called Terro is often used for ant control. This product is a clear liquid that attracts ants. Once they consume it, they transfer it back to the nest, mouth-to-mouth.

This product is effective because it does not cause any eye or nose irritation. It is also effective because it can rid an entire colony of ants in about four days.

Unlike some other ant baits, Terro is easy to use. You can set it up with the included instructions. There is no expiration date on the bait itself. It should last for at least a year when stored properly.
