Why is Wasp Not in the Avengers Movie?
WouterOriginally, the Wasp was going to be a part of The Avengers, but due to scheduling issues with Scarlett Johansson, they had to replace her. The Wasp would have been a welcome addition to the MCU, but would have required a lot more character development, and explained the origins of her powers and personality.
Originally, the Wasp was going to appear in the MCU’s Phase 3 Avengers movie. Evangeline Lilly was going to play the role, with Scarlett Johansson playing her mother. But Joss Whedon had a different plan. He wanted Zooey Deschanel to play The Wasp, but she was unavailable.
So, the Wasp was recast as a character that had appeared in Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. She would have been a welcome addition to the Avengers lineup, and a character that veteran Marvel fans would have gotten used to.
However, it would have required a lot of exposition to explain her powers and personality, and a whole lot of work. It would have been a good addition to the MCU, but not quite enough to make it a great movie.
Ant-Man and the Wasp was a big movie, but it wasn’t a great movie. It didn’t stand up against the blockbuster success of Avengers: Infinity War. The film didn’t have a lot of comic relief, and the villain wasn’t very compelling.
The plot was also a bit convoluted. The Wasp and Ant-Man tried to do too much. But they did find success when they used teamwork to defeat Ghost. The Wasp was able to use the Van’s shrinking abilities to take down a fleet of cars. However, Ghost was able to phase through her stingers, and knocked her out.
