How Long Do Wasps Stay Around?

When the winter season starts, the queen wasp of the colony goes into hibernation. This allows her to focus on reproduction. In the spring, the queen is re-emerged from hibernation and begins building a new nest. This nest is about the size of a golf ball. She lays ten to twenty eggs.
In the fall, the worker wasps of the colony die off. Their life spans are much shorter than the queen. They only live a couple of weeks. The queen wasp will live up to a year.
In the winter, the queen wasps of the colony find a warm and dry place to hibernate. This is the best time to remove the nest from your home. It’s also the safest time of year to dispose of old nests.
Wasp colonies aren’t considered a public health problem. However, they can be a nuisance. They tend to forage in unhygienic places and may carry germs. They also tend to attack anything that threatens their nests. The sting can be painful.
Wasps can also enter your home through open windows or an open door. They are very active during the day, but sleep in the evening. If you’ve found wasps in your home, make sure you seal any entry points to prevent them from dying.
