How Long Do Wasps Last?
Several factors determine the life cycle of wasps. A wasp’s lifespan depends on its species, age, and diet. They can also die quickly from extreme temperatures.
Wasps live in dormant states during the winter. Their metabolism slows down, causing them to die sooner. A wasp that has recently consumed food will survive longer.
A wasp’s lifespan can range from a few days to a few weeks, depending on the species. Wasps that are sugar-dependent die sooner than those that are meat-eating. They will also starve more quickly if they aren’t adequately fed.
The lifespan of a queen wasp is the longest of any wasp species. Queen wasps are often eaten by predators. When a queen is not producing enough food for her colony, she will enter a dormant state. She will then lay eggs inside the cells of her nest. Eventually she will die of exhaustion.
The lifespan of a worker wasp is shorter. A typical worker wasp will live 12-22 days. A worker will spend most of his or her time collecting food for the colony. In addition, a worker will defend the nest until it is ready to reproduce. They also will collect water every day.
During the winter, a wasp’s metabolism can slow down and it will die faster. A wasp in a dormant state can live for up to two days without food. If it is overheated, it will die within a day. A single wasp in the attic can live for three or four days.
