How Fast Can Wasps Stink?
Depending on the severity of the sting, a wasp sting may last from a few hours to several days. Symptoms of a normal reaction include redness, swelling and itching at the sting site. The pain and swelling usually subside within hours.
If the sting is severe, seek medical help. A person with anaphylaxis, which can result in serious complications, should call an ambulance immediately. If you are allergic to bees, wasps or any other stinging insect, you should call a physician as soon as you notice symptoms. Symptoms of a large local reaction include extreme redness, swelling and blistering.
A mild reaction to a wasp sting is usually treated with calamine lotion, a cold compress, or a cold pack. Antihistamines may also be used to relieve itching. If a sting does not heal after a few days, it may be an indication of an infection.
The sting of a wasp is not like the sting of a bee. The stinger of a wasp retracts into the skin rather than leaving it in the skin like the stinger of a bee. Unlike a bee, the stinger of a wasp is packed with venom.
Wasps sting as a defensive mechanism. If they feel threatened, they will attack in large numbers. They will defend their nests if they believe they are being threatened. These insects can sting multiple people during their lifetime.
A wasp sting is usually not a cause for concern for pregnant women. However, if you are pregnant or have a child who has an allergy to bees or wasps, you should take precautions.
