How Termites Can Infest Clothing

Termites are known for causing damage to homes. But did you know that they can also damage your clothing? Luckily there are some tricks you can do to keep them at bay.

Besides the obvious, which is to vacuum your clothing regularly, there are some lesser known ways to get rid of termites from your wardrobe. First, make sure to store your fabric items in latching storage boxes. Secondly, you can also add borax to your laundry to kill the bugs. Lastly, you can use silica gel after you wash your clothes.

Unlike ants, termites can’t be seen but they can be found. In fact, they can even enter your home through the wall. They have been known to move through cracks and gaps in the walls. They are also attracted to body oils and food spills. So, you may want to wash your clothing immediately if you suspect termites in your home.

Aside from food, termites are also attracted to cellulose. This is a naturally occurring compound found in trees and plants. It is also the basis for paper-based products.

Termites are often mistaken for ants. They look just like ants but have a different set of behaviors. They are most active underground and they can be difficult to spot. The subterranean species can cause the most damage to your property.

While it’s true that termites can eat your clothes, the best way to prevent a termite infestation is to not let them in the first place.
