Do Termites Make Noise?
Termites can make a variety of sounds. They use sound to communicate with other termites. They can make a rustling, popping, or knocking noise when they are feeding or moving through wood.
Termites make a louder sound if they are threatened. They bang their heads against the wall or surface they are closest to. This produces vibrations that echo throughout the colony.
They can also make a clicking sound. This is made when termites are tunneling through the wood. They will make this sound if there is an empty space in the wood. This can be a sign that they are infesting the wall.
Termites can also produce hollow void sounds. These are created when the termites have destroyed the wood and created a hollow.
During the spring mating season, swarming termites will create a buzzing, chirping, or flying noise. They can also produce a soft clicking sound. If you hear this, you may have a termite infestation. You should immediately call a professional pest control specialist.
If you suspect you have an infestation, the first thing to do is check the walls for termite activity. Look for evidence of termites such as pin holes, a damaged door, or stuck windows.
You can also call an exterminator to examine the home for termites. You may be able to find out whether or not you have a termite infestation by putting your stethoscope to the wall and listening for a clicking or knocking sound.
