Which Temperature Do Spiders Die?
Spiders are creatures that can live up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit without risking their lives. There are several different ways to survive extreme cold conditions, but most arachnids prefer temperatures around 70 degrees F.
Spiders live in a variety of habitats, from sheltered spaces to patios and gardens. They can stay warm by using a thin silk casing to protect themselves from the elements. Some spiders even have ice-resistant coats that allow them to live under rocks or tree bark.
When cold weather arrives, spiders begin to slow down and enter a state of diapause. This is similar to hibernation. As in hibernation, the spider produces polyhydroxy alcohol, which acts as an antifreeze. It keeps the spider’s cells from freezing and bursting.
When the temperature increases, the spider starts to thaw out. The spider will return to activity once the temperature reaches around 40 degrees. This happens to most of the spiders that live outside.
When the winter comes, arachnids that live in cold environments prepare themselves by getting rid of dead food sources and by producing an antifreeze chemical in their blood. The spider’s cells do not freeze because the antifreeze prevents water from expanding in ice. This process helps spiders to survive in temperatures as low as -5 degrees Celsius.
Some spider species use egg sacs to overwinter. The eggs will not be able to survive the freezing temperatures. When the temperatures rise, they come out to eat.
