What Spiders Are Venomous?
There are several kinds of spiders that are venomous. They are usually not aggressive but some may bite. These can be dangerous to people who work outdoors or inside buildings.
The most common venomous spiders are the black widow and the brown recluse. Both can cause neurological problems and death.
In the U.S., the brown recluse spider is often known as the violin spider. It has a violin-shaped marking on its head. If you are bitten by the spider, you will likely develop a whitish blister on the area where you were bitten. This will cause muscle aches and discomfort. You will also have difficulty breathing.
A brown recluse spider bite rarely causes fatalities. However, the venom contains cytotoxins that can destroy tissue and cause infection.
Another venomous spider is the hobo spider. These spiders are found in the United States and Europe. People who have been bitten by these spiders report that the venom can be very painful.
The Six-Eyed Sand Spider is a medium-sized spider found in southern Africa. Its body is about 1 to 2 inches long and its legs measure 4 inches. Although it is not poisonous to humans, its bite has been shown to be lethal to rabbits in about five to twelve hours.
Other well-known venomous spiders include the Black Widow and the Red Widow. Most people who have been bitten by these spiders will only suffer mild local pain. But if you are bitten by a black widow, you might experience serious neurological effects.
