How Many Young Do Spiders Have?
There are more than 40,000 species of arachnids in the world. Some of them are harmless, while others are dangerous. However, only a handful are harmful to humans. Most species have short lifespans.
When a female spider becomes sexually mature, she begins to produce eggs. The eggs are usually found in an egg sac. These are often distinctive in shape and color. The female spider then protects the egg sac by wrapping it in silk. Some female spiders can have up to hundreds of young.
The egg sacs can hold anywhere from four to 600 eggs. Some of the larger species may protect the eggs more carefully. They might also contain soil or extra tough silk.
During the first few weeks after the female spider lays the eggs, she protects the eggs by making a silk “blanket” around them. She then waits for the cuticles to harden. Once they do, the spiderlings will leave the sac.
The mother wolf spider carries her eggs in a circular egg sack. She carries her babies until they are strong enough to survive on their own. These baby spiders will hang onto her back until they are ready to feed on their own.
Some spiders also lay special eggs for their young. They will regurgitate food to provide nourishment for the infant. Some of these spiders will capture bugs and give them to their young.
Many arachnids are found both indoors and outdoors. They tend to live in low-traffic areas. These spiders often hide from humans.
