How Do Spider Bites Burn?
Spider bites are painful, but most of them are harmless. Although they are not fatal, spider bites can cause swelling, pain, and a skin rash. If your spider bite is not treated, it could lead to an infection.
The venom that a spider bites you with is often poisonous. It may cause chills, fever, and nausea. In addition, it can destroy tissue in the area of the bite. This can make it very difficult to heal.
It is important to contact a doctor as soon as possible. He or she will examine your symptoms and determine the best treatment. Many spider bites can be treated at home, but some more serious complications can require hospitalization.
Some spiders, like the black widow and brown recluse, have the ability to produce poisonous venom. However, this is rare. Typically, they only bite when they feel threatened.
In some cases, the venom will trigger flu-like symptoms, like nausea and vomiting. You can reduce these symptoms by ice packs or wet compresses. Taking aspirin or antihistamines can also help.
Adults should seek medical attention if the symptoms get worse or persist for more than 24 hours. For children, distress and hypertension can suggest a diagnosis.
An ice pack can be applied to the bite site. Do not apply ice for longer than 15 to 20 minutes at a time. Use towels or a clean cloth to apply the ice to the bite. Using an ice pack is not recommended if you are asleep.
