Do Spiders Really Hate Conkers?
If you are looking for a way to get rid of spiders, you have probably heard of conkers. But do they really work? Or are they just a myth?
Conkers are nuts from the horse chestnut tree. They have a green outer shell and are a soft, creamy substance inside. Several people swear that the chemical within conkers repels spiders. It is said that this substance is called saponin. But no one has ever found the science behind this.
It is believed that if you throw a conker into a pond, it will emit a gas that will keep spiders away. This is an urban myth, though.
Another rumor is that conkers contain a chemical that is toxic to spiders. This noxious chemical causes the spiders to curl up and die.
The British Arachnological Society has weighed in on this myth. They have also stated that there is no scientific evidence that conkers repel spiders. However, there are many other methods for keeping spiders away.
For example, you can use baking soda, salt, herbs, or essential oils. Alternatively, you can place citrus fruits around your home. Lemon peels and lime peels are good examples of citrus fruits that can deter spiders. You can also sprinkle cloves and cinnamon around the house.
As well as the’magic’ that conkers can produce, there are other methods for keeping spiders out of your home. These include the use of baking soda, black pepper, or turmeric.
