Do LED Lights Cause Spiders?
It’s no secret that LED lights are very bright. However, some people have questions about whether or not LED lights attract spiders. While spiders are certainly attracted to LED lights, the LED itself is not what draws them.
Spiders are nocturnal creatures, and are most active during the nighttime. In order to hunt, they need to have access to a good source of light. For most insects, this means that they rely on small amounts of light. The light emitted by fluorescent and incandescent lights, for instance, is a good way to attract insects.
On the other hand, LED lights do not provide the same level of heat as incandescent lights, so they may be a deterrent to spiders. If you are concerned about your home attracting spiders, try installing LED lighting fixtures in dark areas.
You can also spray LEDs with bug repellants. This will prevent spider webs from building up around your lights.
Another thing to consider is the color of the LEDs. Besides the obvious yellow, there are other colors that are more likely to attract spiders. White LEDs will most likely draw jumping spiders, while blue LEDs are best for orb weavers.
The most important part of a good light is the illumination. Although LED lights do not emit a large amount of heat, the amount of light they do produce is much higher than standard incandescent bulbs.
The most effective method of keeping spiders from crawling around your LEDs is to keep them off. Besides installing the proper wattage of lamp, make sure to place the fixture away from the windows and other places where spiders can climb.
