Can You Vacuum Spiders?
Spiders are an annoying and sometimes dangerous pest that can wreak havoc in your home. You don’t want them living under your bed or in your office. Fortunately, there are several methods to get rid of them, including vacuuming.
Vacuuming spiders is a great way to remove them from your house. The best way is to use a HEPA filter vacuum bag. This will prevent particles from getting out.
Another method is to kill the spiders with a spray, such as a commercial formula or a homemade white vinegar and water solution. However, chemicals in these products can react badly, which could prove fatal.
In general, most spiders do not survive vacuuming. They become dehydrated and die. But some of them do make it out.
The reason for this is that they need a bit of air to breathe. Whether they survive or not depends on their size and the type of vacuum cleaner they are in.
Some species have developed a special respiratory system that allows them to survive in low oxygen environments. Others have no such organ.
Other than the obvious, the biggest spider-killing feat is the fact that most vacuum cleaners aren’t designed to let the spiders out. While this is not an entirely legal method, it is a clever one.
In fact, most arachnologists collect spider specimens using modified leaf blowers. These are designed to suck rather than blow, making landings less dangerous.
A well-built vacuum cleaner should have a beater bar, a long hose, and a sturdy cloth. The latter is important, as it keeps the spider from climbing back up.
