The first step is to eliminate the source of the infestation. You can do this by washing your linens and bedding in hot water. This is easy, cheap, and effective. Be sure to rinse out the laundry frequently.
Silverfish love damp clothing. They also like to eat paper products and book bindings. When a silverfish infestation occurs, you will notice a pattern of damage in your linens. Some of the damage will look like holes in the cloth or thinning spots on the pages of a book.
In addition, silverfish are attracted to dampness and dark places. Their egg clusters are often hidden in cracks and crevices in your home. These eggs are usually one millimeter in size, and can take up to 60 days to hatch.
To find the eggs, you will have to use a magnifying glass. Silverfish tend to lay their eggs in cramped spaces, such as behind wallpaper or in tiny cracks.
Once you have located the eggs, the next step is to kill them. A pesticide spray can be effective in killing them. Alternatively, you can sprinkle boric acid around your house. Boric acid is very toxic to pets, and should be used with extreme caution.
