Researchers from Fordham University in New York City spent five months studying the behavior of a rat colony in a waste management facility. Initially, they set out to study pheromones, but their focus soon changed to observing the rat-cat relationship. Over the course of 79 days, three rats were ambushed by local cats, and two were killed.
Although most house cats are not prone to killing rats, their killer instinct varies among breeds. In fact, no specific breed has a better chance of killing rats than another. Moreover, most cats have similar hunting and pest-fighting abilities.
