What Rats Are Black?
The black rat, is a common rodent that can be found all over the world. It is part of the stereotypical rat genus Rattus, and is part of the subfamily Murinae. It is thought to have originated in the Indian subcontinent, but is now found in a wide range of habitats.
The black rat is an omnivore, and they feed on almost anything. Their diet consists of fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts, and invertebrates. They also eat garbage and other food scraps. Black rats are considered a pest in many areas, and can be a serious hazard to humans and animals alike.
In the wild, black rats form dens in trees, or dig under the ground. During breeding season, males increase their home ranges, and females are capable of giving birth to six or seven pups. They have a gestation period of about 21 days, and young black rats are independent within a few weeks. They live about twelve to eighteen months in the wild.
Black rats are generally nocturnal and spend most of their time foraging after the sun goes down. These rodents often gather in close proximity, forming a pack of males and females. These animals are great climbers, and their nests are usually spherical or a ring of shredded material. Black rats have great senses of sight and hearing.
