What Month Do Rats Come Out?

Rats are known to be nocturnal animals, but they can also come out during the day. This is most common in nightclubs, where human activity and noise create an environment conducive to breeding. Female rats can have as many as seven pups in a litter, but they usually only give birth to two or three. Rats will continue breeding until they are about eighteen to twenty-four months old. Rat pups have no fur and are blind, but they grow quickly. Usually, pups are weaned within 3 weeks and reach sexual maturity within three months. Male pups need to develop a certain amount of size before they can challenge the adult males.

Rats and mice reproduce all year round, but they peak during certain months. In the United States, this can be anywhere from August to late October. As the weather begins to cool, the rodent population will start to seek refuge indoors. In many areas, the colder the weather becomes, the sooner rats start to nest and breed.

When you see signs of rats, clean the area. Rats need a steady supply of food, so try to keep food sources free of debris. Also, if you have a compost pile, make sure you turn it regularly to destroy diseases and viruses. You should also remove dog feces every day.
