Do Rats Take Dust Baths?

If your rat has an especially filthy tail, you can try wiping it down with a mild soapy solution. However, it’s best to avoid pulling the rat’s tail as this may cause pain.
If you have an older rat, it may be better to use a sponge bath instead. This method works well for most rats. You can also use a soft nail brush to gently scrub the rat’s body. Just make sure you don’t get soap into the rat’s eyes or ears, as this could cause an infection. Finally, make sure you thoroughly rinse your rat afterward.
Using water to bathe your rat will make it less smelly, as it will rinse off the natural oils that make your rat smell bad. You should keep in mind that rats are sensitive and prone to respiratory infections, so be careful when bathing them. They may also become very playful, so you should try to keep them occupied by using a shallow container.
