Do Rats Like Being Thrown?
Rats love to be tickled and they can be very rewarding to pet, but it’s important to be cautious about their reaction to being thrown. You could get a giddy response from them, or they might scream or even get scolded. If you’re not sure whether your rat likes being thrown, it might be best to start by sniffing it a bit first. Rats are naturally scared of rain, so you should avoid throwing them if it’s raining.
The most common reason a rat does not like being thrown is fear. If you see a rat shivering or struggling to move, there’s a good chance it’s scared. A rat’s body language can also indicate whether or not he’s afraid or in pain.
You can play with your rat in the evening after dinner or right before bedtime. Rats sleep in a variety of positions: curled up in a ball, hanging partway out of a tube, or lying on its back. If you’re able to wake it up gently by putting your hand in the cage, it will come right up to sniff you.
Some rats may bite when they see you, but most won’t. Unprovoked rat bites are most likely to occur on young children, bedridden elders, and homeless people. During the day, rats sleep for about 4 hours and wake up a few hours later to play or groom.
