Do I Need to Bathe My Rats?
Generally, rats don’t need to be bathed. However, some owners may find that it is necessary for their pets to be bathed on occasion, for various reasons. Some rats suffer from funky build up and parasites, and bathing can help to eliminate these.
When you bathe your rat, make sure that the water is warm. You may want to use a plastic pan or sink. You can also put some soap into the water and place your rat in it. Once your rat is completely wet, allow it to dry off on a towel.
Bathing your rat should be done very infrequently. You should consider the health and mobility of your rat before determining how often you should bathe them. However, if your rat smells really bad or is ill or elderly, a bath may be necessary. You may also want to use a no-rinse shampoo. This is a good alternative, but you should avoid using shampoo containing perfumes or chemicals.
Before you bathe your rat, prepare a clean towel and warm water. After the water is warm, remove your rat from the water. Apply the shampoo to the rat’s fur, avoiding the head and eyes. Once the rat has been properly cleaned, you can rinse it off with clean water.
